Vigo: Local Cuisine

Vigo is a paradise for food lovers, particularly those with a penchant for seafood. The city’s cuisine is dominated by fresh catches from the Atlantic, with pulpo a la gallega (Galician-style octopus) being one of the most iconic dishes. Other popular seafood specialties include percebes (goose barnacles), mejillones (mussels), and zamburiñas (small scallops). These delicacies are often enjoyed in traditional tascas (taverns) or at the famous Mercado da Pedra, where you can sample oysters and other local seafood.

The city’s food scene also includes hearty stews like caldo gallego, made from greens, potatoes, and chorizo, as well as empanada gallega, a savory pie filled with fish or meat. For dessert, filloas (Galician crêpes) and tarta de Santiago, an almond cake, are popular choices.

Vigo is home to many fine restaurants, including Michelin-starred establishments, as well as casual eateries that offer authentic Galician dishes. The city also hosts several food festivals, such as the Vigo Sea Fest, which celebrates seafood and local gastronomy.
