Calella: Local Cuisine

Catalan cuisine is a major highlight of any visit to Calella, offering a unique blend of Mediterranean flavors. Visitors can indulge in fresh seafood, locally grown vegetables, and traditional Catalan dishes like “suquet de peix” (fish stew), “escalivada” (roasted vegetables), and “fideuà,” a type of seafood paella made with noodles instead of rice.

Tapas culture is also alive and well in Calella, with local bars offering an array of small dishes such as “patates braves,” “croquetas,” and “pimientos de Padrón.” For dessert, “crema catalana” is a must-try, a rich custard with a caramelized sugar crust, similar to the French crème brûlée. The town also has an excellent selection of local wines and Cava, a sparkling wine produced in the nearby Penedès region.

For dining out, Calella boasts a variety of restaurants, from traditional family-owned eateries to more modern, gourmet establishments. The city also hosts food festivals throughout the year, such as the annual “Tastets de Mar,” where visitors can sample local seafood dishes paired with wines from the region.
