Fene, like much of Galicia, is a paradise for seafood lovers. The town’s location near the Atlantic Ocean means that fresh fish and shellfish are staples of the local diet. Dishes such as “pulpo a la gallega” (Galician-style octopus), “empanada de atún” (tuna pie), and “caldeirada” (fish stew) are popular choices at local restaurants. Clams, mussels, and scallops from the nearby estuaries are also delicacies not to be missed.
In addition to seafood, Fene offers a variety of traditional Galician dishes that highlight the region’s agricultural bounty. “Lacón con grelos” (pork with turnip greens) and “pimientos de Padrón” (small green peppers) are local favorites. The town’s proximity to rural farming areas means that visitors can also enjoy hearty stews, fresh bread, and local cheeses.
For dessert, “tarta de Santiago,” a rich almond cake, is a must-try. The region is also known for its excellent wines, particularly Albariño, a crisp white wine that pairs perfectly with seafood, and Ribeiro, another renowned Galician wine.
