Ortuella: Geographical Location and Climate

Ortuella is situated in northern Spain, within the Basque Country’s Province of Biscay. It lies just a short distance from Bilbao, the region’s capital, which makes it an excellent base for exploring both rural and urban landscapes. Ortuella is located inland but is close to the Bay of Biscay, offering easy access to beautiful beaches like Playa de Sopelana and the natural reserves that surround it. The nearby Serantes mountain adds a dramatic backdrop to the city, providing ample opportunities for outdoor activities and nature exploration.

The city enjoys a temperate oceanic climate, characterized by mild winters and pleasant summers. Rain is fairly frequent, especially in the autumn and winter months, which contributes to the region’s lush, green environment. The best time to visit Ortuella is during the late spring and early summer (May to July), when the weather is mild, and outdoor activities like hiking and beach visits are most enjoyable. September is also a lovely time for cultural festivals and events.

Its proximity to Bilbao also makes Ortuella an ideal location for day trips to other scenic spots, such as the Basque coastline, the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve, and the dramatic cliffs of the Flysch Route.
