Zumárraga: Population and Demographics

Zumárraga is a small city with a population of around 10,000 inhabitants. The population is predominantly Basque, with a strong attachment to local traditions and customs. The community is tight-knit, but like much of the Basque Country, it is also welcoming to outsiders and visitors. Euskara (Basque language) is widely spoken, alongside Spanish, which helps preserve the region’s cultural identity.

In recent years, Zumárraga has seen a modest increase in population diversity due to migration from other parts of Spain and abroad. This has brought new influences to the city while still maintaining its Basque roots. The population is generally stable, with a mix of younger families and older generations contributing to the town’s vibrant cultural life.
