Maspalomas: Geographical Location and Climate

Maspalomas is located in the southern part of the island of Gran Canaria, one of the largest of the Canary Islands, an autonomous region of Spain situated off the northwestern coast of Africa. Nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and the mountainous interior of the island, the city boasts a combination of coastal beauty and desert-like landscapes. The famous Maspalomas Dunes, a natural reserve, provide a stunning backdrop of golden sand hills that stretch to the sea. Nearby major cities include Las Palmas de Gran Canaria to the north, about an hour’s drive, and Puerto Rico to the southwest.

Maspalomas enjoys a mild, subtropical desert climate, characterized by warm temperatures throughout the year. Summers are hot, but tempered by the sea breeze, while winters are mild and pleasant, making the city a year-round destination. Average temperatures range between 20°C (68°F) in winter to 30°C (86°F) in summer. The best time to visit is generally during the spring and autumn months, when the weather is ideal for outdoor activities, but even the winter season offers a comfortable escape from colder climates.
