Toledo: Transportation and Accessibility

Toledo is well-connected to Madrid and other major cities, making it an easy destination to reach for both domestic and international visitors. The high-speed AVE train connects Toledo to Madrid in just 33 minutes, providing convenient access for those flying into Madrid-Barajas Airport. For those traveling by car, Toledo is well-served by highways and is about an hour’s drive from Madrid.

Once in the city, Toledo’s compact size makes it easy to explore on foot, especially within the historic center where most of the attractions are located. The city also has a reliable public bus system operated by Unauto, with regular services that connect the main neighborhoods and tourist spots. For those who prefer a more leisurely pace, there are also guided walking tours and even a tourist train that loops through the city’s key sites.

Parking can be limited in the old town, so it’s often recommended to park in one of the public lots outside the city center and walk in. Toledo’s well-preserved medieval streets are a joy to wander, and much of the city is pedestrian-friendly.
