Castelló de Ampurias: Geographical Location and Climate

Castelló d’Empúries is situated in the northeastern part of Spain, within the province of Girona in the autonomous community of Catalonia. It is located a few kilometers from the Mediterranean coastline, specifically the famous Costa Brava, which is known for its rugged cliffs and picturesque beaches. The city lies within the Alt Empordà comarca and is bordered by natural reserves like the Aiguamolls de l’Empordà, one of the largest wetlands in Catalonia, making it an appealing destination for nature lovers. The Pyrenees Mountains are also relatively close, offering a breathtaking backdrop to the city.

The nearby cities of Girona (around 40 km away) and Figueres (just 10 km away) provide convenient access to larger urban areas, while Barcelona is approximately a 1.5-hour drive, offering additional international connectivity. Castelló d’Empúries benefits from a Mediterranean climate, with warm summers and mild winters. The best time to visit is from late spring to early autumn (May to September), when temperatures are most pleasant, ranging from 20°C to 30°C, and there is plenty of sunshine for outdoor activities.

Due to its coastal proximity, Castelló d’Empúries enjoys the cooling effect of sea breezes, making the summers more comfortable compared to inland regions. Winters are generally mild, with temperatures rarely dropping below 5°C, making it a pleasant year-round destination for visitors seeking a quieter, off-season experience.
