Avilés is situated on the northern coast of Spain in the autonomous region of Asturias. Its strategic location makes it one of the main industrial ports in northern Spain, and it is surrounded by some of the region’s most beautiful natural landscapes. The city lies near the Bay of Biscay and is close to other major Asturian cities such as Gijón, about 25 kilometers to the east, and the regional capital Oviedo, located approximately 30 kilometers south. Its coastal location also offers easy access to a range of beaches, including Salinas Beach, a popular spot for surfers and sunbathers.
Avilés enjoys a mild, oceanic climate, typical of northern Spain, with cool summers and mild winters. Temperatures in summer generally range from 18°C to 25°C (64°F to 77°F), while winter temperatures hover around 10°C (50°F), making it a pleasant destination year-round. The city does receive regular rainfall, especially in the cooler months, but this is part of what gives Asturias its lush, green landscape.
